Ron Purcell, RRTC Club Chairman from 1966 – 1968, got in touch with us and sent us the picture from below of some of the Men’s members in-front of the Tennis Pavilion, with the Ladies resting on the grass to the left. Ron has kindly labelled the photograph with the names that he remembers, as you can see below.
Ron joined the RRTC in 1957 when I started RR as an apprentice and left it 1970 when he got married and moved away. In addition to his stint at club chairman, he was also a prolific tennis player, as he captained the Mixed 1st team to the Mixed Division 1 title with his partner Ann Smith.

It is clear from the photo above and for all those who visit the club today the Tennis Pavilion has not changed much over the years! Those named by Ron from bottom left moving clockwise are:
- Gordon ?
- Gerry ?
- Reg Porter
- Stan Naismith
- George Dyson
- John Selby
- Eric Nutt
- Les Barrett
- Ron Purcell
- Ron Hallett
Do you know any of these people, if so please get in touch using the contact form – we would love to know more.
RRTC do know that Ron Hallett was also a previous winner of the Club Championships and he was kind enough to donate a bench to the club in 2004 following his passing. The bench is still on the Tennis Pavilion balcony and many people have sat there to enjoy the tennis at RRTC. The club have purchased a commemorative plaque for the bench which will be installed for the 2017 summer tennis following some winter maintenance to preserve it for many more years to come!
